Dave King (Sound World) has been working with BAMBOO for over 30 years, (25 of those in Bradford-on-Avon). He makes a wide range of musical instruments as well as furniture, sculptures, garden and kitchen utensils and toys. He was commissioned by Kew Gardens to create three large-scale sound sculptures in the RBG bamboo garden for the Japan Festival in 2002, and has run workshops using bamboo for WOMAD, the Eden Project, the Barbican Centre and in schools nationwide.

Bamboo is one of the world’s most extraordinary plants with a multiplicity of uses, and an amazing sustainable resource. ‘This beautiful and mysterious plant lends itself to craftwork, and in working with it I feel as if I’m part of an ancient worldwide folk tradition. It involves different skills and tools from woodwork (bamboo is a grass, not wood) and I still learn from it every day’. Dave also undertakes commissions for larger items such as bamboo benches, gates and fences. www.sound-world.co.uk
